PeterMac………. I have chewed most of the theories over and veered off a little at times but I come back to the same problem every time.
IF they had harmed Madeleine then logic says they would have come back to UK and kept their heads down. "
Accepted, Our logic tells us that.
But remember the old adages, - the best form of defence is attack - Get your retaliation in first.
By staying and by keeping up the media campaign they were able to maintain their particular story, even though the evidence for it was, to say the least, thin to the point of non-existence.
Add the attacks on the Police, the dogs, the reporters, the media, and the whole thing looked like a huge diversionary strategy, not merely a tactic. The Bigger Picture ?
I would love to be wrong.
I would love it if MM were found in the hands of a benevolent if misguided person who has treated her like a princess for these last 2 years and has put up with her 'Tuppenceworths", has educated her, cothed, fed and housed her properly, and has kept alive her recollections of her perfect parents.
But all sentient people must at least recognise the probablility that she is dead, and died on or about 2nd or 3rd May two years ago, and that further her parents either know this for a fact, or also recognise this as a probability.
In which case all the subsequent actions, funds, globe trotting and so on have been, and continue to be, a sham.

They left the twins behind when they went to Huelva, no problems, no time difference either (or an hour).

There is such a thing as hiding in public, C&C, many people have done it before, Kirov was a good example, but Stalin got him in the end. There is also attempting to make a career and celebrity out of setting and spreading a tenuous cover story and alibis.

Look at the Jade story, everyone knows that she ignored a letter telling her to get the abnormal cells zapped in order to appear on Indian Big Brother for a Hundred thousand pound fee. Look what that was spun into, all of a sudden the smear test age should be lowered again in England and there are picture of that pond life in my Doctor's surgery reminding the other pond life to get smears, what relevance that has to ignoring your abnormal smear test letters to make money I don't get, but look what Max Clifford spun it into?

It's standard fare since 1960s US electioneering where perception, not fact, matter (belatedly used by Bliar, of course). In the Nixon/Kennedy election, Nixon had bought down Macarthyism and HUAC as a young DA, he was younger and more dynamic than Kennedy in facts, but perceptions won the day in a vote that was as hung as the 2001 one and where it was won in Chicago under dubious circumstances regarding Kennedy Senior's connections with the Chicago scene in the 1930s which involved the importation of intoxicating substances into the US. So Kennedy was also dirtier at the time, but he was spun so well and the rest is history.

Yes, why would someone go to all that trouble? Because it works, and has worked many times over before.

Hi there
I haven't been on here for quite a while - hi Brandon, Lone, cool and Calm, and any others who might remember me.

Anything new?

I think they need to keep inspiring pubic sympathy because it's the best form of advance defence when the truth comes out.

Also it gives the tabloids copy of some kind, and Maddie does sell papers - so the happy truce following the Mc Cs suing all round goes on.

Remember they performed for the media in May 07 - perhaps regular performances are part of the implicit deal. Give us pics and we will look no further.

When are they going to sue Amaral by the way? Can't wait!!!

Chenier, you actually give Tony Blair that much credit to have the brains to think that scenario through to take the heat off the Browne scandal? That man didn't even have brains to think through all the repercussions when he decided to play 'follow the leader' with his best buddy in the U.S.

Newspapers and the public thrive on another's tragedy.

FSBFP....... the digs made me waver but then I saw the documentary on the way their 'owner' leads them.... those dogs are clever and well trained (close friend is involved in training dogs used in earthquakes etc) but I have no faith in the ex-policeman who has them and charges a fortune for their use so is dependent on good results.
Don't know if there is still a link to that?

Chenier... but surely even if that was the case it would only have lasted a couple of weeks? all scandals disappear quite quickly, especially anything political.

However, because I don't want to go back to the old stuff of dodgy mails and crazy stuff on my blog I'm not going to get too much into it again. ;) too many crazies loitering out there in the ether!!
Off to do some work and ignore the sun outside.

Have to disagree, C&C.

Once Tony Blair decided that our Maddie was the perfect story to get the Browne scandal out of every newspaper in this country, the spin machine was in full-on mode.

Quietly coming back to the UK wasn't an option...

PeterMac.......... I have chewed most of the theories over and veered off a little at times but I come back to the same problem every time.
IF they had harmed Madeleine then logic says they would have come back to UK and kept their heads down. Without doubt it would have faded away. They made it into the big story and continue to do so... not logical if they are guilty and not for a moment do I buy the 'fund fraud' theory.
I think one of the McCanns problems is that neither Gerry or Kate McCann come across as likeable or sympathy-inducing, but does that mean guilt? I don't think so.

I've laughed most days at some of the outrageous conspiracy theories concocted by the ambulance chasers and those with far too much time on their hands and wondered at some of the more sensible theories but I still come back to the same old......

I would love to follow you, but I keep coming up against the problem of having to decide which of the various mutually exclusive stories is supposed to be the right one. Once the McCs have decided that, then I suppose we could begin to move on, and incidentally they could start actually looking.
But they haven't, and we can't, and they haven't.

PeterMac.... are you inferring you're more discerning and intelligent than me (and others of course) because we have differing views? tut tut! How very Dark Side!

None of us KNOW what happened to Madeleine (even Amoral or they'd be banged up by now) so I could be right or you could be but in the meantime all our views are equally valid.

I still stick with 'spotted, stalked, snatched' despite following the story from the first day.

Simple solution, take the twins with her then she won't have to go through the torment. Perhaps the twins are kept away from Oprah lest they remember something and say! You know kids, they come out with stuff when least expected. Out of the mouths of babe's, etc.

I thought they had the nation's greatest legal minds available to them, courtesy of the "Fund".
What the Hell are they doing putting themselves up for this.
Those who believe every word they say will still believe every word they say.
Those of us who are more discerning and intelligent, and who question everything they have said from the first day will waiting for any small deviation from anything they have said before, or for any apparent contradiction in what they say now.
Are they mad, or perhaps just deluded ?
I do hope so.

I would guess they go to nursery / playgroup or even pre-school already? Mine both went from age 3 though I don't really know what the norm is now.
Government seems to think that they should start learning from around two days old! ;)

I don't think she's been constantly with the twins - don't they still go to a nursery?
