FOOTBALL bad boy Joey Barton received a £61.20 penalty fare after being caught without a ticket on a train journey from King’s Cross to Cambridge.
How much does Barton earn? Something like £50,000 a week, we reckon. And despite the size of his bank balance, he resorts to fare dodging? Classy.
However, much more surprising than the news that Barton didn’t buy a train ticket is the revelation that he can read.
A witness told The Sun:
“Given his reputation, it was all about par for the course. The only thing that surprised me was that he was reading a book! He claimed he didn’t realise he had to have a ticket before getting on. But there are notices everywhere saying you can be prosecuted if you don’t.”
A book! This is a most unexpected development.

Quite frankly I am just sick of seeing news articles about Barton in the papers all of the time because the press insist on raking over everything he does looking for an excuse to call him a thug. Yes there is no excuse for his past violence but I am sick to death of hearing about him now. I think the press should just move on to more news worthy topics and personalities

Well, I’m loathe to stick up for Joey Barton, a thug who hardly does his native city proud, but certainly round my way paying on the train is pretty much accepted.

Or hit someone outside McDonald’s. I’m from up that way and I know about buying train tickets!! At least someone’s sticking up for him I suppose….

To be fair, he is from up this way (Merseyside), where it’s more or less taken for granted that you can get on a train without a ticket and just pay the conductor.
