Mia Farrow Fasts For Darfur And Dreams Of Woody

MIA Farrow is to go on hunger strike next week in a show of solidarity with the people of Darfur.

This is no trite matter. Africa, once colonised for administrative and trade purposes, is to be raped. China supports the regime in Sudan. China wants Sudan’s oil. It will not settle in the country. It will take and leave.

And with no infrastructure, no police and no unified government, Sudan will scramble for what it can get.

So here’s Mia Farrow empathising with the impoverished.

Of course, if Hollywood wanted to do something - really do something - its uber rich could invest in Sudan and, such is the way of Africa, run the place for decades.  It’s not lack of power that leaves Darfur bereft; it’s a lack of will.

As for the actress… To stave off the hunger pangs, Farrow will recall bedroom scenes with former husband Woody Allen, and then move onto dessert - a vision of Allen’s squiring of younger member of their extended family.

Millions of budding celebrities may misconstrue the message and tell their people that they too are on the Darfur Diet. But so long as the message gets out, then grandstanding  can only aid the cause.

The actress will endure a  “fast of only water” on Monday “as a personal expression of outrage at a world that is somehow able to stand by and watch innocent men, women and children needlessly die of starvation, thirst and disease.”

Can one more thirsty mouth who can stop at any time she likes make a difernce?
