I think that everyone is making jokes about swine flu because they don’t think it will happen to them .
This is what my husband that studied microbiology told me in laymans terms.
Don’t stop panicking just because the swine flu is mild in Britain.
What is so dangerous about this flu is that it is a type that has mutated from an animal species and therefore the more people that get the mild swine flu the more likely that someone who is already suffering from a different normal flu virus will get the swine flu at the same time and this may then make a mutated version that becomes a pandemic.
This is how the swine flu could kill us all.
Yes there are lots of new flu viruses about - but not ones derived from animals.
I remember getting the ‘chicken flu’ years ago when my husband studied at Uni because someone that was studying it spilt the virus. The whole class went down with it and being so close so did I. The reason it did not spread far was because if you had it you literally could not leave your bed. We crawled on the floor to try to force feed ourselves and use the toilet. We could not phone for help. It was 3 days of hell. Years later we recognised the virus as the ‘bird flu’. And no my husband did not become a microbiologist thank goodness.

Hundreds of people die of flu every year. What a fuss.It is flu which comes from pigs, or birds, or pollen or chickens.Anything to take ones mind of economic ruin by banks and governments.
