that’s just it, these soaps may well have researched well enough the illness or disorder but a lot of the heartache and pain comes in the process of and actually getting a diagnosis or recognition of your problems.

i have had Manic Depression since I was 18. I’m now 33. Everything that Stacey does in Eastenders, myself and my friends and family can relate too. And to the fucking idiot that thinks that mental people don’t do anything embarrassing in public, - I did. I stripped totally nude and went on a rant screaming at gypsies and generally putting the fear of god into people. Its just a relief that all this was in a country village. Her character has been researched very well, so mr idiot - take your ignorant arse somewhere else. And I hope you get yourself a mental illness, or someone close to you does. Then you will know what true heartbreak is like.

Fleetwood Mac non-stop for days on end nearly sent me (and probably the neighbours) to the knife drawer!
and yes, bizarre at home but relatively normal outside so others wonder what you’re going on about. TG I moved on to normality.

And the sufferer self medicates with anything to hand, alcohol, drugs, gambling, promiscurity, which clouds the underlying problem, because you’re too busy sorting out the fall out from that, you never get to even begin to scrape the surface of the illness.

Also they don’t all do bizzare stuff in public, like they tend to portray in soaps, sometimes its only those that are close to them who get to witness the behaviour and they cover it up for the sake of the family.

I remember watching the dreaded Jeremy Kyle show last year and he said to a guest…

” You ring her 15 times a day!!! and YOU think thats NORMAL!!”

I thought it was normal for your husband to do that before I took the kids to school!

Also the saddest part of all is that you can fall out of love before its diagnosed, with all the crap you take, and by then your relationship is irrepairable.

BF.. so agree with you. (similar circs in a previous life)
TV/celebrity mags/papers are forever portraying it as bit of a laugh that is solved with a few pills. The celebrity illness of the moment and the excuse for all wrong-doing!!
They know nothing about trying to get medication into someone who loves being high and doesn’t want to take it!
It was better described as Manic Depression…. that at least gave more of an idea!
