Swine Fever: MPs Expenses, Repossessions And Alan Duncan’s Gardening Video
LET’S play Tabloid Bingo! See if you can join up the following stories:
Eyes down!
The number of people who have lost their homes has soared by more than 50% in the first three months of the year.
Malik’s Den - Not Number 10
The Justice Minister embroiled in the parliamentary expenses scandal has described the claims against him as “a non-story” and insisted he can “sleep easy at night”.
He claimed second home allowances of £66,827 over three years on his house in London.
According to the Telegraph, the minister, who is seen as one of Labour’s rising stars, claimed £65 for a court summons for non-payment of council tax. He has agreed to pay that back.
The paper also said he claimed £2,600 for a home cinema system - but that was reduced by half by the Commons Fees Office. Mr Malik has told Sky News he plans to donate the cost to good causes in his constituency “as a gesture”.
Leaked documents show Mr Malik claimed the maximum second homes allowance for three years while paying a peppercorn rent to a rogue landlord for his main home.
Kelly’s Eye - Andrew MacKay
Bracknell MP Andrew MacKay says he has nothing to fear as the row over parliamentary expenses rages.
The Tory politician, who claimed £22,575 for his London home last year, believes there is nothing “unreasonable” in the expenses he has claimed over the past four years.
Two little ducks - Ed and Yvette
Ed Balls and Yvette Cooper, the husband and wife Cabinet ministers, “flipped” the designation of their second home to three different properties within the space of two years.
Sweet £16,000
ELLIOT MORLEY is today’s Swine Fever-infected MP. The Telegraph claims the former minister Elliot Morley claimed £16,000 for a mortgage that did not exist.
Top Tories Put Shit On Expenses - Douglas Hogg - claimed £2,000 for a moat to be cleared round his country pile.
Hope And Pray - £41,709
He has been troughing for years and employing his children as well. The real pressure on him is coming from his local paper which has really got the measure of him.
Up To Her Blears - £13,322
Communities Secretary Hazel Blears has agreed paid back £13,332 in respect of capital gains tax on the sale of her second home.

D Morgan
the police are investigating …lets hope they step aside when the rotten tomatoes start being hurled. You know, being public spirited and all that so the taxpayer doesn’t have to pay to dry clean their uniforms and to ensure the tomato lands on its Savile Row suited target

We not only pay them to steal so called expenses from us, we now have to pay Police wages to stand guard outside their luxurious properties.
I was under the impression that the Police were unable to handle the current level of crime in the real world without having to waste valuable man hours protecting MP’s from that den of iniquity

I was watching it on the news last night and can’t believe how they’re all blaming it on the system.
So they all knew the system was wrong but still pushed their luck. That’s definitely dishonest and dishonourable.
Sack the bloody lot of them and make them get a proper job!

The pigs involved should be sacked, it won’t make one iota of difference to their constituencies wellbeing ,as they are obviously only looking out for themselves.
In fact, it may well improve things.
These people are being paid huge amounts anyway, and have no idea of the struggle some are having to deal with to eat and keep warm, clean and dry.
Also an earlier item on Anorak about the armed services short on vital equipment, but £2k+ for plasma tvs on expenses on a huge salary? , seriously - kick them out

Waht galls is how all of them are so fucking indignant - how very dare you - or sympathise - like the awful Blears - and say “we” must all get our acts together. They’ve been caught red-handed and are blaming the cookie jar for having such a big mouth…

what annoys me is that they are only paying it back because they got caught out and they think it will affect their chances at the next election - and it most certainly will!!!!! there are too many snouts in the trough in Parliament and I don’t remember people in general being so bloody angry about an issue for quite some time - even the usually demure and respectful audience on Question Time last night was brimming with anger and disgust….
it’s not the system, the system is very clear about what is and is not permitted.
claims are only permitted for items directly relating to an MP’s parliamentary work - how moat-cleaning, chandeliers, massage chairs and plasma TVs fit into this, I have no idea - and then there is the blatant exploitation of the 2nd home allowances and the practice of “flipping” for financial advantage…
it is the MPs themselves who have been revealed to be nothing more than greedy and self-serving, raking in any available cash at the expense of their constituents, many of whom have already lost jobs and homes in this recession.
the whining that “it was all within the rules” is frankly patronising and disgraceful.
there are a minority of MPs who have played by the rules and this only serves to highlight the greed of those who have played the system.
if it were practical, the best solution would be to suspend Parliament and have immediate local elections - that’s if the fed-up public would actually be bothered to vote and who could blame them?
