J. Donner: It's a pretty confusing subject. What anorak does so well is to extract pieces of information, speculation and sometimes even news(!) from the media and leaves the reader to make up their own mind. Stick with it.

10 - Maybe. But trying to make sense of PR and speculation every day is not that easy. This is best round-up of the media's take on the case. I urge you to reread it and try to follow the media's argument...

Scotfree, you're right that it would be unusual for a paedophile who prefers teen or (just) pre teen girls to start attacking younger girls, but it's certainly not impossible. There's a theory that paedophiles could start losing the thrill they get from their "usual" victims and start seeking younger ones. This is how it's thought a lot of men (it's usually men) start trawling the net for pictures of ever younger children, having started maybe with "barely legals" etc.
We shall see.... or maybe not, sadly.

Hi Cheryl!

Lovely weather here for once! Just been enjoying a lazy time in the garden.

I agree about the sanctimonious thing. It was clearly wrong, or, at least, very unwise, to leave the children, even for short periods of time, but most people make mistakes or takes chances sometimes. (That's precisely why people were so shocked. So many felt that exactly the same thing could have happened to them.)

Anyway, the Mcs were going to come in for criticism, whatever, so, if it appeared likely to them that Madeleine might have wandered out, I think they'd have said so. Why not? Until I see evidence for a different view, I have to trust what the Mcs appear to believe, ie. that Madeleine could not have opened the patio doors, the window and shutters or the front(back?) door herself and let herself out. Kate saw the apartment at 10.00pm; we didn't. If they have ultimately rejected the idea of her having wandered out, they're probably right. Why suggest abduction instead of the wandering out theory? Abduction wouldn't let them off the hook with regard to having left the kids in the first place because of all the obvious risks. The official police investigation didn't suggest it, which I think they would have if it had been a reasonable theory.

C&C, good morning. Don't feel bad, I got moderated and comment pulled yesterday as they wanted me to prove my statements I made. I did!

Interesting, am I wrong in recalling that most times over the past year and a half when some of the usual posters wrote nasties their fall back was this was a satire site and it was just satire they were writing? When did the MM thread turn serious and one can no longer claim they are writing satire? Some posters got away with crucifing the McCanns under the guise of satire.

Don't tell me the latest schoolyard bully has people worried!

That is true, Scotfree, paedos usually have their age and sex preferences. However, imo they share a like depraved sick mind. Hewlett could be helpful, if he is so inclined, in sharing some thoughts, MO's used by others, maybe even names he has heard who might be of interest to the Investigators.

Once innocuous comments are moderated then obviously its time for me to give up on Anorak which is no longer a satirical thread.

Moderator _ It was removed because of the initials. Anorak is satirical, the MM threads are not

C&C
I remember back a few years ago was going home from the pub with my friends and we proved to the local constabulary we were capable of getting home as we were following the white line....the panda car stopped a few yards ahead , and he held open the door for all of us to get to be taken home, ..there wasn't a white line.

That was back in the days of local bobby knew our dads

It speaks of desperation, doesn't it?

Front page on some gospel spreading media and a one or two sentences in others. Perhaps we'll know more when the Police have interviewed him.
But with all the revelations about his past crimes, he's hardly going to get a fair hearing on this even if proved beyond doubt it wasn't him.
But isn't he meant to be one of some new 'interests'

And isn't Madeleine just missing anyway?

Why is it that the papers are taking statements from former police that say Hewlett's previous M.O. fits in with the scenario in the McCann case, while at the same time ignoring the facts of the M.O. where it is stated that he had previously attacked young girls aged 11-14 years old.

Also are we in for a rethink on the abduction theory, to make the 'facts' fit with Hewlett's 'guilt' . I mean is it truly credible that a 61/2 year old man managed to get out of the window carrying a 3 year old child with out leaving any evidence?
