Madeleine McCann: Raymond Hewlett Will Not Be Interviewed
MADELEINE McCann Watch: Anorak’s at-a-glance look at Madeleine McCann in the news - Raymond Hewlett refuses to answer questions.
SKY NEWS: “Final attempts by Madeleine McCann investigators to speak to a convicted paedophile about her disappearance have failed.”
Convicted British paedophile Raymond Hewlett who has been named as a person of interest in the Madeleine McCann case
Yes…
Hewlett has been jailed several times in the UK for sexually assaulting young girls.
Yes…
Hewlett, 64, is terminally ill with cancer and is now said to be too unwell for an interview.
Retired UK policemen Dave Edgar and Arthur Cowley, who flew to Germany to speak to him, said they were “very disappointed” with the lawyer’s behaviour…
“He is not a suspect but I was keen to interview him because of his failing health. I have tried over the past weeks to arrange this via his lawyer in Germany.
“These negotiations have been difficult for reasons which I do not want to go into detail about.
“Mr Hewlett’s condition has of course been deteriorating during these negotiations.
“I travelled to Germany yesterday in a final effort to interview Raymond Hewlett. Regrettably that interview is not possible.
“From information provided by his lawyer and other sources it is obvious that his health is such that any meaningful interview would not be possible.”
Would a man on strong pain killers be a credible witness?
MIRROR: Madeleine cops can’t quiz paedo
Says Martin Fricker:
Private detectives planning to quiz paedophile Raymond Hewlett over Madeleine McCann’s mysterious disappearance have been scuppered by his lawyer.
And the, er, law?

No one is accusing the McCanns of any misdoing, just debating a few points that they themselves, the McCanns, have brought up. Many children go missing and never in memory has two years of continual debate been made on this case…that is are the McCanns involved in the disappearance of Madeleine?

12 - any more speculation backed up by no facts nor evidence or any kind and we won’t be able to publish your missives. The McCanns are innocent. No-one is a suspect. Those are the facts.

Soonerorlatertheywillconfess, have you come up from the infamous darkside to visit us and drop your pearls of wisdown? Hewlett and family did live an hour drive from the Resort around the time when she was there and he left shortly thereafter. He was NOT in jail at the time but he had been in jail over in the UK for sexual offenses against girls. How can you be so adamant when you say her body won’t be found? Natalie Holloway’s body was thought to have been dumped in the ocean - just how do you know so much about the young child’s disappearance to be able infer that is what may have happened to Maddie? By the way, when did you stop eating fish?

This is absurd…….as much as Pedophiles dying in jail are of no sympathy to me or the rest of the world….this guy had nothing to do with the MM disappearance. Was he even in Portugal at this time?? NO! But he was in jail!!! The Mcscamms will go to any length and have any one carry the blame for their own negligence and actions - they’d even pin it on the Queen of England or Gordon Brown if they could. I predict that not only did this Hewlett pig not have anything to do w/ Madeleine’s disappearance or death - but that there was no pedophile involved. This was the ultimate cover up due to money and political connections - which is the reason her body will never be found….not unlike that of Natalie Holloway’s situation. The next time you eat some fish….just know that there were sacred lives lost and that is about as close as Scotland Yard or the American FBI will ever get to either Madeleine or Natalee ever again. If there is life beyond this….then those who committed these heinous crimes against innocent girls and children will be served up a penance on a silver platter - in due time.

No Garth, you are quite right, we do NOT know, and we have actually heard nothing from Hewlett, and there were many people around PdL, it could have been anyone, or no one, because simply no one knows.

Proximity seems to be his most serious offence in the MM case, his other victims being teenaged girls anyway, it seemed unlikely.

Not quite. Its no offence. But he is a known paedophile. The fact that he was within an hours drive of the apartment and told someone he knows the apartment well and had parked outside on several occasions, to me, sounds a good reason to question him. Also, because he’s only KIDNAPPED young girls before doesn’t mean he has no desire for a four year old. We just don’t know do we? How things seem doesn’t mean how they actually are. I would have thought even you would have learnt lesson by now!

I have no sympathy for Hewlett either, BUT all we have heard from him is very much second hand, and also we have no idea just how ill he is, and possibly unable to speak.
If he is NOT involved in the McC events, then people need to move on and find who is.
It would also be a travesty if the persons involved were not caught , and Hewlett was blamed.
Whatever his past crimes, olved a morphine laced ‘confession’ is not desirable, especially if it allows AN Other to go free.

They don’t know if he’s involved or not. Thats why they want to question him. They just can;t take his word for it. Until then how can they possibly move on?

June, the problem has been the private detectives don’t have any jurisdiction or legal rights to interview Mr. Hewlett. The ball is in Hewlett’s court and Hewlett calls the shots on whether he talks to them or not. The lawyer cannot stop the police from interviewing Hewlett on any case they are actively investigating which may involve him but most likely would be present during such questioning to advise him on his rights and what questions to answer or not. However, they are not investigating the disappearance of Maddie and doubtful they would be able to query him about her and I believe I read they were not going to in one of the articles.
Thepoorpriest, contrary to what you say about him not looking like the Smth Family or Tanner’s description, over here the news carried the pictures side by side and comment was made there was a similarity and there was to me studying the pictures side by side closely. Yes, he looks terrible now near death but sometimes people who do have cancer don’t go down-hill fast looking bad until near the end.
However, many times people who are dying, and that includes convicts ready to be put death, want to make amends for the wrongs they’ve done in this world so they die a peaceful death. Frankly, Hewlett has many amends to make for the horrible wrongs he inflicted on others if he wants a peaceful death and one would hope that even if he was not involved in her disapperance or was involved he would want to give her parents peace and tell them yes or no.

They have said all along they didn’t think he was invovled, just that he might have info. Paed*s do have a way of seeking each other out. He probably knows something. However he’ll never say a word of relevance because to do so would implicate him in other activities.
I can’t raise even an ounce of sympathy for him and have no concern over his ‘rights’ as they seem to have elsewhere.
He’s just vile.

also, inconveniently, he looks nothing like Smith family or Tanner’s description.
just for starters, he is miles too old.

If the UK detectives really had anything on the paedo, they would have used local police to handle, that is why I suspect it was just a fishing trip.

I thought West Yorks Police had interviewed him about another case, but do private detectives have any jurisdiction to interview anyone?

When could lawyers prevent police talking to suspects ? I can only conclude he never was a suspect and just another diversion getting no further forward in finding the missing girl.
Still I hope he lingers and gets some repayment for his past sins, even though
these appear to be unrelated to the McCann issues.
