They’re no sticklers for accuracy at the Mirror. In their article they make three references to how far people and places are from Praia da Luz. In each case they wildly underestimate the distances to place people closer to the village. All these people are at the other end of the Algarve.

This story has been a piece of poop since day one, when the bin-Laden-finding Thompsons found an over-eager Mirror ready to print their picture of a man dying of throat cancer lying in his hospital bed, in direct contravention of pretty much every section of the PCC Code. (No problem - the Mirror editor is actually on the PCC.)

Add that to the hearsay evidence of what Hewlett is supposed to have said to Peter Verran and you’ve got a story that, if Hewlett had the lifespan, the energy and a decent lawyer, would see their arses sued.

That the Mirror are wasting time on this is no surprise - they’re just trying to sell papers.

That for three weeks, Clarence Mitchell kept trumpeting that this man must make himself available for interrogation and dna testing to the McCanns private detectives in order to “eliminate him from the investigation” takes some explaining. Particularly when he’s now been dropped like a hot cake for the new suspect, who happens to be in prison on a charge of murder, rather than caring for the missing little girl as the parents would have us believe. (Unless she’s in there with him, of course.)

But hewlett got dropped when he asked for money for the interview and Mitchell complained about newspapers having the temerity to be prepared to hand out cash to the likes of the Thompsons, Verran and Hewlett. “No Stone Unturned” decided that whatever information Hewlett had that would eliminate him from the inquiry wasn’t worth paying.

So he presumably remains ‘ a person of interest’. Just not as much interest as the next ’suspect’.

How come there’s always a a guy with a cement mixer involved in these abduction/murder/charades? And why isn’t there a woman suspect yet? Three years and no woman has been thrown to the press as a POI?! I still think they’ll wait until Hewlett’s deceased and lean towards him as the “murderer” for decades to come. Unless the McCanns get a lie detector test concerning their daughter’s spiritual state at the time she disappeared. LOL doubt that’ll ever come to fruition!

I wonder if his wife really made that statement or just the over-active imagination of an irresponsible reporter the newspapers seem to be filled with covering this case,

If she did, interesting she’d make that statement now as could be taken to be throwing more suspicion his way.

Whats wrong with DIY? but I thought it was holes in the road being dug/filled in.

We are getting very laidback about ‘Pervert for the Month’, and anyway Wimbledon starts tomorrow so along with the Scotland Yard visiting Parliament again re ‘Expenses’ ,the Media in the UK will be quite busy, ooh nearly forgot getting a new Speaker too

I do seem to remember a report saying that there were a lot of drives newly tarmacced in the PDL area that spring but I can’t find it now. Perhaps ‘the powers that be’ have had the reports deleted from the interweb?
