However, I do know about the history re the White House colour. Also, another bit of 'our' history, across the other side of the Potomac River, from where I live, all I have to do is look across the River and there on the hill is Fort Washington, which was built to protect DC from the British coming down it. Lovely historic place to visit, dungeons there, old canons still mounted - presume it was left standing in case you all came back.
