RIP Harry Patch, your reign as Britain’s oldest man lasted but a few days. You were 111 – which is a Nelson in cricket terms. A good innings. Now you’re out.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown once met you during the Armistice anniversary reception for World War 1 veterans.
Brown outlasted you. And you outlasted Henry Allingham, as the oldest last survivor of World War I to fight in the trenches.
