id-card-alanTHE ID cards – or are Organised Identity Theft, as Old Mr Anorak terms them – are showcased by Home Secretary Alan Johnson at St Pancras Station in London, where he revealed the design of the National Identity Card which is to be issued to members of the public for the first time later this year.

The principal of the cards is pretty simple: the computer cannot be wrong. The computer knows.

In time, the dread job of Home Secretary will be occupied by robot who though aeel to change its face, sex and voice must forever prate the mantra:

“ID cards are good. Technology is magick. ID cards cure all.”

Anyhow, thanks to Johnson, fraudsters, counterfeiters and other villains can get to work on copying the card while the real talent works on hacking the big database in the sky…
