I have noticed that there is a variant of the species used to good effect at marathon events. One of these bands is always placed at about mile 21 in the marathon. This point in the race is where runners start to flag and hit the proverbial 'wall'. The organisers of the race don't want the last two miles littered with the carcases of the unfinished so they employ the Trad band to stop any waverers in their tracks. Any runner who actually makes it past them is almost guaranteed to finish leaving the weaker willed to stumble in circles and tears until they can be picked off by the St Johns Ambulance crews
