Madeleine McCann Hunt Cost Police Third Of Shannon Matthews’ Price
MADELEINE McCann Watch: Anorak’s at-a-glance look at Madeleine McCann in the news - The police bill…
Sky News: “Revealed: The Police Bill For Madeleine Hunt”
British police investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have spent almost three quarters of a million pounds on the case.
The Breakdown
The force’s part in the search for the missing little girl cost £548,477 in 2007-08.
An extra £196,756 has been spent in 2008-09 - taking the total to £745,233.
Some of the cost has so far been reimbursed by a Home Office grant of £525,069.
The Grant
In February, the Home Office said if a local police force has to incur extra costs for a Government event, its authority can ask for “special grant support from the Home Secretary.”
Says the McCanns’ spokesman, Clarence Mitchell:
“The police keep Kate and Gerry informed as and when appropriate and let them know of any movement on the case and Kate and Gerry are grateful to them. Obviously they have spent a lot of money on helping to find Madeleine and they are grateful to them for that effort.
“But Leicestershire Police are still bound by the Portuguese authorities as they are the lead force even though technically the case has been shelved over there, pending any significant developments.
“Leicestershire do what they can under the circumstances and Kate and Gerry are grateful for being kept in the loop.”
The hunt for Shannon Matthews cost £2.7million.

Morning all. I too loved the ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’. Brilliant blog that.
also quite taken with the fact that old Chesty Diddums has lodged a complaint about harassment.
The irony considering all the people he and Photshop have hounded relentlessly over the past couple of years!!

This is such fun……..here are some interesting observations made by the intelligent people as expressed by mr observation himself…….
“Many interesting observations were made about what first made people suspect the McCanns were not telling the truth, these included:
· why, on the first time they talked to the press, Dr Kate McCann appeared to be reading from notes and not speaking from her heart
· the regular changes of earrings during the first few weeks
· leaving the twins alone when she ran down for help when Madeleine was first reported missing
· leaving the twins in the crèche the very next day
· jogging within days and recording their times
· visiting the Pope
· discrepancies revealed in the first few days in how often they were said to be leaving the children: 1 hour, 30 minutes, 15 minutes
· clear body language signs that they were lying
· the setting up of the Fund - why would getting in lots of money help to find Madeleine?
· a huge amount of reward money was put up but never claimed by anyone
· (from someone who visits Praia da Luz regularly) it’s a quiet, child- friendly place and the last place
· the McCanns claiming it was ‘like dining in our back garden’ 50-yard place
· lack of physically searching by the McCanns
· (from someone at the meeting who was in Praia da Luz the very week Madeleine ‘disappeared’) there were reports that week that someone referred ‘Madeleine’s uncle’ had made a quick exit from PdL and all the staff were suspicions about it
· the washing of Cuddle Cat - something that would never be done by someone genuinely grieving at loss of their chid
· planning events months ahead marking Madeleine’s ‘disappearance’…therefore they knew that Madeleine would never be found”
I think they’ve missed a few
Kate not wearing her glasses whilst reading notes (vewy suspicious)
Kate admitting not liking weetabix with peanut butter spread.
Gerry pretending his name is Gerry when we all know its Gerald.(he must fink were fick)
Ermm………’ang on, need a top up………… slurrrrp…
Now where was I?……

Chatelaine, long time no see, good to see you The police receive their salaries no matter what they are doing; so their salaries should not be added on to the cost of the McCann case.
Dr Eggman, I agree with you the two retired detectives will come up with something - notice things are very quiet or maybe kept quiet for a change away from the prying eyes of the newspapers and public. .

What has that money actually paid for though? I don’t begrudge one penny of it, but it does seem like a lot considering they’re not actually the main Police Force investigating the disappearance?
Dogs and DNA testing? Work by CEOP? Any actual detective work?
I so hope the two “ex” detectives come up with something. For some reason, I actually think they will…..
