Caster Semenya Scores Three Times Normal Testosterone Levels
MORE news on is she / isn’t she runner Caster Semenya who has testosterone level three times higher than those normally expected in a female sample.
Anorak, meanwhile calls for Berlino the Bear to be tested for human traits. The big brown bear was everywhere at the times, a tireless athlete putting in the yard yards whether it be javelin, 200 meters or what. Is Berlino a man? A woman? A man standing on woman’s shoulders?
Much to debate.
But the press pack ignores the obvious and focuses on a teenage South African. Will she appear in Nuts or Sensible Shoes Monthly?
Prior to the recent World Athletics Championships, Semenya, aged 18-year-old, put in some telling performances, and then won world gold for the 800 metres.
Semenya completed the distance in 1:55.45, beating Janeth Jepkosgei (Ms) by massive 2.45 seconds, Britain’s Jenny Meadows taking the bronze medal with a girlish giggle.
The allegation is that Semenya’s performances should not be measured in seconds but in inches.
The BBC spent an age at the World Championships debating the matter because the media was debating the matter. The BBC called on past UK champions to say that Semenya’s gender was a private matter and should not be discussed in public, but certainly was sensational news.
The International Association of Athletics Federations, which sounds French in origin and thus very aware of its own importance called for a test. Semenya would be debagged before the millions. But Paul Gascoigne is not on hand to pull down Semenya’s shorts, and we turn to the laboratory, where so many athletics’ medals are won and lost.
And what says the IAAF? Well, Mr president he says:
“It should not even have become an issue if the confidentiality had been respected. There was a leak of confidentiality at some point and this lead to some insensitive reactions.”
And his name? Why’ it’s Lamine Diack.
Test them all…

June, I agree with you. It is so tasteless for it to be played out in the public arena whatever the results. This should all have been dealt with in private, especially as there’s no suspicion of deliberate fraud.
.
I have noticed a definite male/female divide over it.
Most of the blokes think its funny and that she’s fair game for pis* taking, the women are far more sympathetic towards her feelings over both the investigation and the outcome.

The various Sports committees etc should determine the sex of every athlete well before the events, and just have tests for drugs thereafter as routine.
Whatever Caster’s hormone problems are, they shouldn’t be aired like this.

That is outrageous to base any decision on a testosterone level that they claim is three times higher than normally expected. What is normal for one person is not necessarily normal for another, any doctor knows that. All women have testosterone in their system and the levels of testosterone change at varying ages and times throughout their lives.
