Manchester United Fan Given Excuse To Hit Craig Bellamy
CRIME of the day in the Sun, where “Police have launched a probe into a claim footie ace Craig Bellamy confronted a fan on the pitch.”
Neither Bellamy nor the fan have complained to the police. But because it’s a high-profile event involving celebrity footballers, the police issue a statement:
Greater Manchester Police spokesman says:
“At the end of the derby between Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford, a member of the public ran on to the pitch, and was detained by police and security staff… police are continuing to make inquiries.”
Meanwhile, while the sleuths investigate, here’s a photo…

yampster,
So true.
Here’s City’s assistant manager:
City assistant manager Mark Bowen defended Bellamy, claiming the striker only pushed the fan because he feared he was going to be spat at. “Craig was going to the fella to say ‘get off the pitch’,” Bowen said. “He went up to the fella and thought he was going to spit in his face. They came really close. The fella moved towards him and Craig, with an open hand, pushed him away.”
Amazingly, the photos show that open hand to be a fist. Football management, where having one eye appears to be a career prerequisite.
