I had a budgie called Joey that I kept in a cage… I used to let him out often to fly freely around the room…then perch on my shoulder and twitter sweet nothings in my ear…..not that I’m suggesting you do that with a wild bear … well at least not until he’s well trained…and has learnt how to fly.

I’m just amazed that there’s somewhere in the first world with the word ‘township’ in its placename that isn’t a fledgeling colony ravaged by cholera.and Indian attacks.

Frankly, June and CoolandCalm, I’m even against animals being kept in zoos. Do you have a great ape house in your zoo? We do here and one great ape there I’ve become rather fond of her and go visit her - now she has a wee one. She’ll look me in the eyes and the sadness she expresses in her eyes hurts to see. I think it is very very wrong take a wild animal out of their natural habitate and way of living.

yes June… I have no sympathy for the woman. Keeping animals like that is just plain reckless, not to mention outright cruel. Not the bears fault but its probably better off dead than in similar circumstances somewhere else.
Lets hope the other ‘pets’ are moved quickly to somewhere better. Much better.
No-one should be allowed to keep wild animals……. madness.

I know it killed a human, they do kill humans, humans know that, so why keep them? especially in captivity.
A 15 ft cage is hardly a home for a bear, even for a human its a bit limited.
The human was taking the risks, not the bear…which was probably driven insane by the moronic human.
Sorry and all that , but if Humans want to be regarded as the superior species , its time they started acting like that, and not idiots

June, they’d have to kill that bear. They couldn’t set it free, it killed a human. Furthermore, being around her for however long she had it, it lost its fear of humans. Now it would be truly a dangerous animal - even caged.

What was she ever thinking of being that foolish. Pennsylvania is hunting country and majority of people there are hunters. Everyone knows if you catch a wild animal even as a baby they will revert back to the wild animal instincts once grown.

A risk she must have known about…so why was the bear killed?
