Dr Eggman, the satellite circles constantly and not just focused on one country. I rather laughed to myself when I read above "Last night a senior source with the Portuguese police said: “We know US spy satellites regularly sweep over Portugal looking at military installations and government facilities. So we thought they might actually have images of Praia da Luz on the day of the kidnapping and the preceding days." They do sweep around the world constantly. Sweeping over their military installations is one thing but do they actually think as it is sweeping it is taking images of resorts? I am sure the images they capture are of certain areas, i.e., military installations, unusual activity in countries re installations, etc.

Dr Eggman, never under estimate our countries' abilities!

Cheryl you're right although it could equally work the other way I suppose? If you knew you'd get "filmed" committing crime or a terrorist act, you'd probably think twice. Unless it was a suicide act, obviously......
How much memory would be needed to store everything that ever happens all round the world every second of every day?
This is not, sadly, the answer. Just as CC says, it's the stuff of movies (as far as we know!!)

Dr Eggman, there is no doubt that every country in this world would give anything to get their hands on the highest of sophisticated technology that the other countries might have. Thus, if such technology existed for national security purposes, I highly doubt the abilities of such techology would be used and thus comprised by assisting in finding kidnapped children, solving unsolved murders and other criminal activities. Is that not what we have police forces for? That may sound cold hearted but ....

Is there an irony button anywhere?

What a load of shite. Did anyone see James May's programme where they took a satellite picture of a field with a space invader made of large squares? You could only just make it out even though it was fairly large! We can't even catch criminals who have had a blurry CCTV picture taken of them, the images are so poor. Even google earth has to use planes to take pictures for their close ups! Unless it's incredibly hush hush, we don't yet have this level of technology (as Cheryl says) and, if we did, do you not think it could be used to solve every crime ever?
Utter, utter crap.

I checked the National Geo-Spatial Intelligence Agency website and oddly enough they have a page titled Kids.

No pictures of Madeleine on it, but you do get to see what an NGA analyst looks like..

Wow, this is great news for K & G......the chance to get satellite images that 'might' help identify the 'perpetrator' etc. I'm quite surprised not to have seen any comment from the family or Mr Mitchell acknowleding this current initiative by the D.Express!

1. Was such a satellite even over Portugal at the time? 2. Have they thought about asking Russia what their spy satellite might how shown? 3. "The Sunday Express sought explanations for the extraordinary situation from the US government’s ultra- secretive National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. The agency’s lawyers are now considering a Freedom of Information request from the Sunday Express. A spokesman for the agency said: “NGA does not provide imagery to private citizens or private companies. For reasons of national security we do not discuss specifics about what images we have or our capabilities.”" Not meaning to sound cold hearted but they would actually expect the US to expose to the world highly classified and top secret capabilities it may have just to help in a kidnapping case? Sunday Express better get a grip on reality!
