Dubai’s Burj Khalifa Declared Greatest And Tallest White Elephant Of All Time

by | 4th, January 2010

white-elephantDUBAI today heralded the Burj Khalifa as the world’s tallest White Elephant. At 828m (2,716ft) high, the Burj Khlifa is far taller than the Millennium Dome.

Last month, Abu Dhabi secured naming rights for the White Elephant, giving Dubai a handout of $10bn (£6.13bn) to see the name altered from the Burj Dubai to the Burj Khalifa, so named after Abu Dubai’s leader. It’s money well spent.

Says one insider:

“With any luck we will open the place as an entertainment venue and host the Teletubbies Live! concert, a museum dedicated to Lionel Richie and some first-class netball.”

For now, sightseers can take lift to the 124th floor observation deck, from where they can see sand, more sand and on a clear day, sand.

Says one ex-pat:

“They said Giza pyramid and pot-holing complex could never be topped as a complete waste of money and time. But then we got the 02. Otherz dared to dram and now this has to be the Greatest White Elephant ever made by man. It’s just a pity that a once Great Britain lags so far behind the rest of the world.”

The hope is that when Dubai is swallowed up a water and sand, the top 2 floors will make a pretty decent maisonette form whish to view the place dreamers are already calling ‘New Atlantis’…
