JLS, Cheryl Cole ‘Sing’ At Brit Awards: Susan Boyle And Rage Against The Machine Escape

kasabianTHE Brits Awards serve to remind us that we produce pop stars of the calibre of faux folksy Cheryl Cole and X Factor runners up JLS. Both will perform at the BRITs 30th Anniversary show that will take place on Tuesday 16th February, at the Earl’s Court barn. Compassionate Cheryl will “perform live” – a refreshingly dishonest way of circumventing allegations that she lip-synchs.

Also performing will be Lady GaGa, Robbie Williams, Florence & The Machine, Dizzee Rascal and Kasabian, serving to remind the viewers that pop is not a televised school overseen by Simon Cowell’s board of governors.

One person not performing is Susan Boyle who has, as the Mail says, been “snubbed” because someone somewhere said “she isn’t cool enough”.

No little irony there. The Brit awards as cool as old Mr Anorak’s wasabi enema.Still, the caring Mail can make up for any disappointment by wondering how Boyle is reacting to the snub and if it’s pushed her into a meltdown.

No sign of Rage Against The Machine and their nostalia-laden brattish sound of rebellion.

Also not at the corporate AGM – with drinks and cabaret – are Warner Music, reportedly threatening to boycott the Brit Awards this year.

The record label is allegedly “fuming” that a number of its acts will not be adequately recognised in this year’s nominations. According to The Sun, Muse will only be up for one award and ‘Haven’t Met You Yet’ singer Michael Bublé is absent from any of the international categories.

Hey, kidz, what’s pop without the awards and the record sales it promotes? You don’t have to be good to be a British popstar – you just have to have man in a suit and nipple-high trousers think you are…
