Green Biofuels Kill British Forests

sherwood-tomorrowONE in the eye for the Greens today. According to a report seen by The Times Green biofuels, being plugged as a good idea for vehicles, do more damage to the environment than burning fossil fuels like diesel, writes AGW.

The Times today says the UK’s Department for Transport target for raising the level of biofuel in all fuel sold in Britain means millions of acres of forest will be logged or burnt down and converted to plantations.

The Amazon tragedy photograph above is a bit of a cheat. The doomed forests are likely to be European deciduous woodland habitats which makes a nice change from cutting them down for supermarkets.

The study says some of the most commonly-used biofuel crops, palm oil and rape seed, do not meet minimum European Green standards. An urgent rethink is said to be imminent.
