75 Starlings Commit Suicide In Somerset

by | 11th, March 2010

IN Croxley, Somerset, 75 starlings have fallen from the sky. Dead. The birds are on a driveway.

The RSPCA animal charity is “mystified”.

And the BBC delivers one of the greatest lines ever recorded in the media. We give you:

Animal welfare officer Alison Sparkes, who was called by police, said: “It was a remarkable sight, I’ve never seen anything like it.”

There is no evidence the birds were ill or poisoned before they hit the ground.

How do you give medical to a wild bird in flight? And can you tell a starling’s mental well-being by sight alone? Answers on a feather to the usual address…
