THEY say that from the top of the Burj Khalifa you can all the way to Nazi Germany. The Telegraph leads with news of that kiss – Ayman Najafi, 24, and Charlotte Adams, 25, were sentenced to one month’s jail for kissing in a restaurant in the fascist enclave of sand and cement.

Charlotte Adams is the Mail’s front-page “blonde”. To the Sun she is “British beauty Charlotte Adams”.

The kissing couple were all geared up to challenge the one-month prison sentence handed out by the Beaks at Dubai’s Misdemeanours Court. And they can – on April 4.

They will have to remain in the country until then.

The story goes that they were in a hotel restaurant at the Jumeirah Beach Residence. They say they did kiss but only briefly as a greeting. A peck. No lips. A female diner says he saw the kiss and what is more so did her child. The witness is a local woman. In the pecking order of humanity, she is at the top of the tower.

“My daughter told me that the accused were kissing on the mouth,” she said.

“Then I spotted them doing so myself. I also saw them touching each other, as they were seated two to three metres away from our table. A number of customers witnessed the scene as well.”

The judge has heard enough.

And so have we. Kissing in public has replaced the once informal bow, curtsy or reassuring handshake. A meeting between two British men is an exercise is misunderstanding. Where once the handshake covered all eventualities, we are now confronted with a hug, a kiss and a handshake once reserved for arm wrestling. Sometimes we get all at once.

Old Mr Anorak, out patron, suggests that anyone unable to function on a simple handshake is a most likely a foreign agent and should be shot, as occurred in the case of 50-year-old Hamas commander Mahmoud Mabhouh, although he is admitting nothing…
