Very jealous! I'd quite like an iPod touch as a substitute. I'm happy with my phone. Of course, you don't get the advantage of being able to access the net everywhere.

Write your to-do list into the relevant bit of your iPhone!

Sorry, off topic.

Timothy Jenkins

Thank you for that very clear explanation of how the app works. It certainly sounds impressive. I'd love an iPhone but they're still expensive. I have a very ordinary little mobile (Nokia). It's capable of being connected to the net, receiving emails etc. but I've never bothered with this facility. I'm not a technophile. We recently had a new network installed, with a couple of new computers. Teething problems or what...??!!

It's good to have the go-ahead for the child alert system. Not before time.

Let me start by saying that I think that Maria's post should be read by all! I believe that a much more automated and centralised approach to spreading information and images of a missing child in the first few hours will make an enormous difference!

I would also like to comment on Anorak's comments though. I purchased the KamAlert application for my iPhone last week and have been reading lots of forum posts about it as I have seen it on all the press releases and news wires lately. I think it is important that people realise there are in fact 2 separate functions of the KamAlert application, not to be used at the same time, in fact, to be used at very different times.

One function (which I believe they would have been referring to if they were inspired by the horrendous incident that befell the McCanns) is to act as a surveillance device, whereby it instantly sends an MMS message with pictures to another mobile phone upon detection of motion along with GPS location. I guess they are implying that if the McCanns had set this up with their phones, as soon as there was any movement, they would have known about it, and possibly got back to their kids with security guards in time to stop them.

The other function of the application acts like a 'comfort' for many people walking alone at night, and I suppose for the elderly as well, knowing that at the touch of a button, their friends, family or the police can be notified of an emergency and their exact GPS location. I have tested both functions and they work well. Although I am very happy to say I have not 'needed' them, and hope to never use them, it is a terrific little app that I am glad I bought.

Not an app.

And, yes, there have been just a few front-line organisations campaigning for this for a long time (though, admittedly, they did ask the Mcs to support their campaign), but I suppose you have to forgive the Liverpool press for apparently giving Kate a share of the credit for the initiative!
