Jon Venables: After The Heated Debate The Cool Dissemble

by | 2nd, April 2010

JON Venables, one of James Bulger’s killers, is awaiting the result of the Parole Board to discover his fate. Will he released on license or will he be charged with whatever offence led to his re-incarceration?

The Sun leads with news that Venables will spend at least a year in jail even if he is not convicted of possessing child pornography. The Parole Board will listen to all sides, including the views of James Bulger’s parents, Ralph Bulger and Denise Fergus, eventually.

The Mirror says Venables faces six months inside. The Telegraph says “many months“.

The wheels of justice move slowly. Venables is pretty much where most people want him to be, so why rush? The Government can talk tough and defer. The Government can dissemble.

The talk is that it will take as long as two years until Venables is jailed or released with a new identity. And if he is not charged, then look out for those stories of his wrongful imprisonment – and those stories that he can claim compo.

Of course, by then, Jack Straw will no longer be Justice Minister and a new mob will be in charge and ready to dissemble…
