JORAN Van Der Sloot: Anorak’s at-a-glance look at the alleged double woman killer in the news:

He is alleged to have murdered Natalee Holloway, an American teen on holiday in Aruba.
Joran van der Sloot says he was tricked into confessing to the murder of Stephany Flores.

Gather:

Joran van der Sloot the 22 year old Dutchmand who allegedly murdered Stephany Flores and Natalee Holloway stays in jail and the judge rules the confession is good. Judge Wilder Casique Alvizuri declared Van der Sloot’s habeas corpus claim that his rights were violated unfounded.

Melody Granadillo, who dated Van Der Sloot some years before his arrest, has been on the telly talking about the man she knew.

The Orlando Sentinel wonders if paying for such information and making it entertaining to the viewers at home is right?

Caylee Anthony and the fee issue: ABC’s Chris Cuomo says, ‘There’s almost always a price tag attached’

[ABC’s Chris] Cuomo asked about paying sources, and the topic of Caylee Anthony came up.

More on her here:

Kurtz started by asking about ABC News’ paying Melody Granadillo, the former girlfriend of Joran van der Sloot, for text messages and photos.

“I would like it if there were an agreement among all major media outlets, CNN included, that there will be no licensing fees paid, we will not do it,” Cuomo said.

But news is a competitive business. If you make money from adverts around the story, should the source of the scoop make money too?

Kurtz explained that networks pay “tens of thousands” to sources in these deals. Then he added, “ABC paid $200,000 to the family of Caylee Anthony in that toddler’s disappearance and murder. And it just seems to me that everybody talks a good game about, ‘Well, we don’t pay for interviews,’ but they find ways around it. I sense that you’re not that comfortable with it.”

Yet Cuomo made no apologies. “The business is what it is,” he said. “And to be competitive today, when something happens to someone who is considered a guest, there’s almost always a price tag attached.”

Van Der Sloot says women have been writing to him jail. They want to marry him. Celebrity attracts all sorts of fans:

Creative Loafing: “Why some women have a fetish for serial killers”

Unfortunately a high percentage of these women have suffered from domestic violence and seek a relationship with a convict as it gives them control. The inmate is almost entirely dependent on them; these women have the power. Also, these women tend to think their prison lovers couldn’t possibly cheat on them, though the convicts are often in contact with multiple other women.

And men.

The case goes on…
