Syria ‘Bans’ The Fashion Forward Burqa As Britain Embraces Muslim Punk

by | 20th, July 2010

THE Daily Star says Syria has banned the burqa. Syria is the “first Muslim county” to ban the challenging burqa, the outfit of what media watchers are callign the New Punk (or soon will be)..

Only, it hasn’t. Syria has banned teachers from wearing the face veiling niqab. Syria’s education minister, Ali Saad, says:

“Education in Syrian schools follows an objective, secular methodology and this is undermined by wearing the face veil.”

Intolerance will not be tolerated! Syria leads the way in enlightenment and understanding. Ban the teachers!

Or as the Star puts it:

SYRIA has become the first Muslim country to ban the burka, claiming the face mask encourages Islamic extremism. The Middle East country has outlawed the controversial clothing which has also been called degrading to women.

The Star makes no mention of the teachers. The ban appears to be total. And if Syria, with its funding of Hezbollah – the Nazi saluting ‘Party of God’ – can see the light, why not unfair Britain? The paper says:

David Cameron and his Cabinet have come under pressure from Tory MP for Kettering Philip Hollobone, 45. He has refused to meet veiled constituents and wants a private members’ bill in place to make the burka illegal.

You can read Mr Hollobone’s half-baked thinking here. And it is doomed to failure. Hollobone has applied so much pressure that Environment Minister Caroline Spelman rose to say:

“I don’t, living in this country as a woman, want to be told what I can and can’t wear. I’ve been out to Afghanistan and I think I understand much better as a result of actually visiting why a lot of Muslim women want to wear the burka.”

One day the burqa will be banned everywhere except in the UK, where it will be worn by the rebellious, the edgy and the ones who dare to be different. The burqa is fashion forward. Do you dare to wear?
