Jon Venables Two Years For Child Rape Pictures And ‘Dawn’ Fantasy

by | 23rd, July 2010

JON Venables, one of James Bulger’s two killer, has been sentenced to two years jail for possessing child porn. He is banned from using the internet for five years. (Call the cyber police!) His names(s) will be on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.

We heard that in online chats, Venables said he was a 35-year-old married woman called Dawn who had abused her eight-year-old daughter. Dawn was offering to sell access to her child.

Prosecuting, Mr Louis Mably, said some images found in Venables’ possession showed the rape of young girls. Adding:

“He stated he got sexually aroused looking at indecent images of children, it was ‘breaking the last taboo’.”

Edward Fitzgerald QC, representing Venables, said his client’s life was an “abnormal existence”, changed by Bulger’s murder.

At the Old Bailey, Venables says, via video link, he is “genuinely ashamed” to have distributed and downloaded indecent pictures of children. Only the judge can see his face at a packed Court 14. The media asks to see him so that justice can be seen to be done. The judge says no. Says Jon Venables:

“I am responsible for downloading, viewing and deleting indecent images of children on my computer, of which I have been aware through my solicitor.

“The images were for my own use. I viewed the images alone. I have never shown the images to anyone else,” he said. “I accept that using peer-to-peer can involve automatic distribution.

“I am willing to answer questions related to indecent images of children on my computer.”

As is this way of this case, Denise Fergus, Bulger’s mother, offers her views. She says “justice had not been done”. Her spokesman says the jail term “was simply not enough to meet the gravity of what this person did”.

Mr Justice Bean says Venables had “colluded in the harm of children”.

Denis Fergus sat and listened. The media required his face be seen. The judge said no. All they heard was the voice.

NOTE: Do not send us Venables’ identity. We will not publish it. Ending up in jail for him is not worth it.
