Lady Gaga And Justin Bieber Sue Over Comic Book Biographies

by | 31st, August 2010

JUSTIN Bieber and Lady Gaga are not happy that they have been immortalised in 2D form by Bluewater comics.

The Gaga book sold out in the first week after its release. These things are populist fun. Others getting the line-drawn treatment are Kristen Stewart, Taylor Swift, 50 Cent and David Beckham.

But will Bieber and Gaga win and have their unauthorised biographies pulped? Rich Johnston notes that in the 1990s their lawyer, Mr Kenneth Feinswog, unsuccessfully tried to rid the world of similar New Kids on the Block and Motley Crue comic books. They were published by Revolutionary Comics, whose works are now reprinted by Bluewater.

Mr. Feinswog likens Bluewater’s comics to be more akin to a bootleg album or poster, and thus they’re actionable on trademark and intellectual property and likeness rights.

In other news, the law suit might not be such a bad thing for Bluewater. The publishers have just announced a sequel to their Lady Gaga comic book, their first sequel comics biography to date.

They might enjoy the free PR…
