X Factor: Is Cheryl Cole’s Judgement Of Tom Richards The Most Stupid Comment Ever?

by | 11th, September 2010

THE X Factor calls 16-year-old Tom Richards, whose vocals give Cheryl Cole cause to come up with one of the best X Factor lines of all time. The English language needs a new word to describe the judges’ comments, something that moves on from contrived, routine or hype.

While we think one up, Tom sings The Scripts’ Man Who Can’t Be Moved. The judges say he has good voice but needs to move about less.

They tell him to do another song, something of the now. He then sings This Is The Moment from the musical Jekyll and Hyde. Simon looks forlorn. But young Richards is his own man and will do his thing. He says “on my own head be it”.

And when he finishes Cheryl offers her bon mots. Listen up:

“You’re trying to show us what you can do vocally and stuff but what we’re looking for is someone who comes in and says, look this is who I want to be this is where I want to go and you sang two completely different songs. Despite all that, I’m going to say yes”

Despite all that Cheryl Cole has a job on a judging panel…
