by | 11th, September 2010

THE trouble began when the 81-year-old man took his inflatable dingy into the sea off Anglesey to fetch his friend’s wheelie bin that had blown in.

He set sail dressed in his day clothes. He had on neither waterproofs nor a life jacket.

The winds were up and the man was blown a mile out to see off Red Wharf Bay. An emergency call went out and Moelfre inshore lifeboat was launched to rescue him.

He was rescued. He had mild hypothermia. He was taken to hospital in Bangor.

The crew then went back out to sea to retrieve the wheelie bin, which was half-full of rubbish…
