Racist Burqa-Clad Woman Proves Criminals Hide In Burqas

by | 19th, November 2010

TIME for an update on Carnita Matthews, the burqa-clad woman who called the Australian police racist for pulling her over for a Random Breath Test and, as she claimed, trying to force her burqa off to see if her face tallied with her licence photo.

You can read more here. But the gist is that she says the burqa-clad figure who signed a police statement wasn’t her.

The law disagrees:

A magistrate dubbed a burqa-clad mother of seven as racist, after claiming she was the victim of mistaken identity and jailed her for six months.

And then get this for a defence.

Matthews’ lawyer Stephen Hopper said there was no way for police to prove that his client was the one who signed the statutory declaration at Campbelltown police station on June 10.

So the burqa can be used to conceal a criminal’s identity?
