Madeleine McCann: Which Newspaper Will Win The Rights To The ‘Scathing’ Book?

by | 25th, November 2010

MADELEINE McCann: Kate and Gerry McCann’s book about their daughter has yet to be written but already the reviews are coming in. Philomena McCann, Gerry McCann’s sister, says the work is “truthful and scathing”.

The McCann’s fund is not as full as it once was. The book will raise monies. But does it need to be sensationalised? Isn’t that what the press did what the child went missing, cranking up the single-thread story into a feeding frenzy of libel and accusation?

Here’s Philomena McCann:

“Kate is mainly doing it and I know she has written some very truthful and scathing things relating to the Portuguese police.”

Why focus on them? Did they take Our Maddie? Is this book about revenge for them labelling her an arguido?

When Madeleine went missing we thought it would be really important for Kate to keep a detailed journal and she felt it was important to keep an account of everything and some of it has been used for the book.

“I don’t know if I will be able to read it myself. I have been thinking about it but I think I may find it too upsetting.”

What can be in it that Ms McCann has not already heard or felt? She then adds a rather confusing line:

“Kate and Gerry feel a real responsibility that they don’t want to continue asking the public to support them, and that support has allowed them to go on.”

Anyone understand that?

“They think about what they can do to help themselves and they came up with this idea.”

But how will the book be marketed? Is it a whodunit? The McCanns are writing the book to raise cash. And, as they say:

“We are hopeful that this book may help the investigation to find Madeleine in other ways too. Our hope is that it may prompt those who have relevant information, knowingly or not, to come forward and share it with our team.”

One days after the book hits the shelves, Prince William and Kate Middleton will marry. The book will not be the thing – rather whichever newspaper serialises it will.
