Guardian Bemoans Climate Change Bias Reporting At Fox: Irony Overload

by | 16th, December 2010

HUGE news in the Guardian that Fox News has an agenda on global warming. You might suppose this will give Guardian readers a chance to see another side to the manmade global warming argument.

The Guardian makes no mention of that, preferring to quote a Media Matters shocker that, Fox News’s Washington bureau chief, Bill Sammon, “imposed an order to make time for climate sceptics within 15 minutes of the airing of a story about a scientific report showing that 2000-2009 was on track to be the hottest decade on record”.

What he actually wrote was:

“We should refrain from asserting that the planet has warmed (or cooled) in any given period without IMMEDIATELY pointing out that such theories are based upon data that critics have called into question.”

Well, yes. the data is questioned, and questionable. Remember when the Indy told us that snow was a thing of history? Remnbs when the NYT explained that it wold not publish those ClimateGate emails because::

The documents appear to have been acquired illegally and contain all manner of private information and statements that were never intended for the public eye, so they won’t be posted here.

But The New York Times was fine with Wikileaks::

The Times believes that the documents serve an important public interest, illuminating the goals, successes, compromises and frustrations of American diplomacy in a way that other accounts cannot match.

Sammon adds:

“It is not our place as journalists to assert such notions as facts, especially as this debate intensifies.”

This is the classic fudge the media shares with our elected leaders. The modern mantra dictates: there are no certainties; there is on a debate…
