THE eclipse was not total. The eclipse was not a harbinger of doom – Nicholas Owen has news on that. The astronomers on Parliament Hill, Hampstead, peered through the dense cloud cover. Members of the Newcastle Astronomical Society with telescopes at St. Mary’s Lighthouse in Whitley Bay searched for a chink in the cloud cover.
