Julian Assange Bombs South London

by | 11th, January 2011

JULIAN Assange popped back on to the news agenda with an appearance at the bland Belmarsh Magistrates Court in south east London.

It’s was only a 10 minute hearing, in which the Wikileaks founder, wanted in Sweded in connection with an alleged sexual assault, gave his name, age and address.

He’ll be appearing at Woolwich Crown Court, south London, on February 7 for a full two-day extradition hearing. And the media will be there to clamour for news. And do have heart of the hundreds of hacks stood in the damp.

Spare a thought for the lucky hacks who made it into the building to tweet from inside the court – and finding that there was no mobile signal.

And what are they Tweeting but the same old, same old? Wikileaks has created news for a news media that has grown flabby and introverted.

First Bellmarsh, next Woolwich. It’s a tour to test the resolve of any reporter as the wheels of British justice slowly turn….
