You were the former Bevin Boy who played for Bolton Wanderers when they were winners (signing fee: £10 on the day after the second world war broke out). You played for England when they were the greatest. You played 33 times for England, scoring 30 goals. You became “The Lion of Vienna” as England defeated Austria 2-3 in a cauldron of noise and violence.
