EMA Protest Photos: The Biscuit Revolution

THE student protest against the Government’s plants to kill off the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) will not make the front pages. Why not? Answer: no violence.

Dominic Lipinski’s phots of a hooded youth kicking the windows of London’s Millbank Tower during the student demonstration is on no less than nine national newspaper front pages.

In place of mashed heads the students from William Morris 6th form handed out ‘Save EMA’ biscuits outside the Houses of Parliament. Someone waved an effigy of a happy copper on a stick – rather than trying to impale a copper on a stick. The police smiled. The sun shone. And the EMA moved one day closer to being scrapped…
