US Seeks New Ways To Execute Prisoners: UK Could Be Big In Sodium Thiopental

SOME potentially good news in these recession-hit times for Dream Pharma and other companies able to sell sodium thiopental to the US. Hospira, of Lake Forest., Ill., will no longer be making sodium thiopental to be used in executions. In the US, 35 states execute prisoners by lethal injection.

Hospira made the drug in Milan. But the Italian Parliament demanded the company ensure the drug would be used only for medical purposes. The company could not make that guarantee so ceased production.
