THE A Future That Works rally in Manchester featured some violence, some racism and a spot of attempted shopping. The choicest photos are after a few updates:

An Anorak reader writes:

The breakaway group have brought the centre of Manchester to a standstill on a busy shopping day and no doubt scared the shit out of some of the shoppers and they wonder why the police are trying to contain them. They should have stuck to the peaceful protest rally because they’ve just succeeded in annoying a whole load of people.

“Greater Manchester Police said they found several packets of razor blades after searching one protester, who was now being quizzed about the items.

Two police officers were injured, one suffered a broken finger and another was bitten on his ear.”

A police spokesman said: “We have intelligence to suggest a number were armed with chef’s knives and one of those arrested was found with a number of razor blades.”

Peaceful eh?
