SHRIEN Dewani: Mziwamadoda Qwabe claims that Anni Dewani was not meant to die. So why was she abducted at gun point and shot in the neck?

The killer tells police that “we did not plan to kill her”.

This seems important, given that Mr Dewaniis accused of plotting to have his wife killed on their honeymoon to South Africa. It’s a theory furthered by South African police commissioner General Bheki Cele. He’s the one who called Mr Dewani a “monkey”. He said: “A monkey came all the way from London to have his wife murdered here.”

Taxi driver Zola Tongo has already admitted his part in the murder. He has made plea bargain with the police, in which he implicated Mr Dewani. Read his full statement here.

Qwabe has already confessed to driving the hijacked car when Anni was shot.

Police Captain Hendrikse tells the Cape Town court:

“Qwabe admitted… that while he was driving he heard a single shot. That he got scared and nervous and parked the vehicle at the side of the road. That he got out and saw Mngeni looking for the bullet shell and that he (Qwabe) found the casing and threw it in a drain while they were running away.”

The court was not told of Mr Qwabe’s claim that he did not mean to kill her.
