Olympics: West Ham Win Right To Play Championship Football In A Second-Rate Stadium

SO. Now we know: £9bn of public money will create a football ground fit for a Championship club. West Ham United are the official choice of the 2012 Olympics legacy officials to take over the stadium.

The bid by Tottenham Hotspur to move in and then spend private money knocking the ground down before building a big Premier League-standard, purpose-built football stadium in its place has been derided as madness.

The Olympic stadium demands second–rate football. Anything else would be a just wrong.
