Wikileaks: Julian Assange Takes Credit For Egypt Revolution
IF Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is right and his website did trigger revolution in Tunisia and Egypt, is he responsible for any deaths there? Assange once claimed Wikileaks had changed the regime in Kenya and led to the deaths of 1,300 people:
“1,300 people were eventually killed, and 350,000 were displaced. That was a result of our leak.”
He later denied his opinion.
WikiLeaks has a four-year publishing history. During that time we have changed whole governments, but not a single person, as far as anyone is aware, has been harmed.
Now he says:
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange says the whistleblowing website’s influence on events in Tunisia was the “example” for the political upheaval in Egypt.
The material leaked by WikiLeaks which was then published through a Lebanese newspaper, Al Akhbar, was significantly influential to what happened in Tunisia, Mr Assange told SBS’s Dateline today.
“And then there’s no doubt that Tunisia was the example for Egypt and Yemen and Jordan, and all the protests that have happened there,” he said.
Really?
Assange stated that the events and WikiLeaks part in them was “extremely gratifying.”
Anorak has been a fan of Wikileaks, but this kind of marketing makes a fool of history…
