Supreme Court Says Westboro Baptist Church Can Picket A Marine’s Funeral

by | 2nd, March 2011

WHEN US Marine Matthew Snyder died in Iraq in 2006, his funeral was held at Westminster, Md. The service featured members of the Westboro Baptist Church. Mr Snyder’s father was disgusted. He sued the WPC. The Supreme Court has now decreed that the First Amendment protects the rights of the WPC to picket funerals.

Writes a US reader:

This Ruling handed down by the Supreme Court was absolutely no surprise to me but it is sickening and beyond human decency to permit those hate spewing creatures to continue to dishonor our soldiers who come home from War in coffins. Not only our soldiers but any of those others they pick and choose to spew their hatred at their funerals.

The Rights we have over here are going to end up destroying this country if a curb is not put on some of them.

The Right to Bear Arms has been upheld. Any crazy can go out and buy a gun and slaughter at whim and will.

The Freedom of Press. “The Pen is Mightier than the Sword”. Newspapers write what they want and can destroy a private person or public official for life and worry about the truth later, as can always print a retraction.

Freedom of Speech. The Westboro Baptist Group is the perfect example and now multitudes of other hate spewing Groups will speak out freely in public spewing hatred at their favorite targets.

Rights are hard won. And easily lost.

The WPC are like something out of South Park made flesh and bone. Can’t we just laugh at them..?
