The EDL Hit Rochdale With Stories Of Peadophile Muslims: Richard Peppiatt’s Daily Star Might Like It

by | 5th, March 2011

THE English Defence League were demonstrating against Muslims outside Rochdale Town Hall by the town’s cenotaph today. Unite Against Fascism were, as ever, there to counter the EDL. There were 35 arrests.

But why was  the EDL there? The local Rochdale paper tells us:

A speaker from the EDL spoke through a tannoy and said that the EDL were there because of recent reports about child sexual exploitation in Rochdale.

Here was the EDL hitting two tabloid terrors with one yell: paedos and Muslims. Paedo Muslims are their perfect storm – one that should gel with Daily Star readers gnashing their teeth at whatever Richard Peppiatt’s replacement at the Muslim-toilet hating paper can cook up.

Do you remember this Daily Star gem?

“MUSLIM SICKOS’ MADDIE KIDNAP SHOCK.”

Linking the sexual abuse of children to a particular religion is revolting, utterly bigoted and totally unfounded. Paedophiles are of any creed or colour.

The EDL is not  a coherent response to Islamic fascism. Nick Lowles, the editor of Searchlight puts it well on the Hope Not Hate blog:

“Islamist extremism has been the elephant in the room for too long. Everyone knows it is wrong and is actually part of the problem but people have either been bullied into silence or lack the confidence to speak out.

“Islamist extremism is no friend of a progressive society. Staying silent on attitudes and behaviour that is both wrong, offensive and downright dangerous is abandoning one’s own progressive values and moral compass. Remaining silent and uncritical will be viewed by others as passive support or acceptance and that is not the basis to build a popular broadbased campaign against Islamophobia.”

The fights against Islamophobia and Islamist extremism are connected. You cannot achieve one without the other…
