German Radio Station Offers Free Headstone To Best Epitaph Writer

GERMANY’S Radio Galaxy – Aschaffenburg No. 1 for pop – is offering you the chance to win 3,000 euros which must be spent on a headstone for your grave, death insurance or a funeral. All you need do is write your own epitaph. Easy!

Radio’s presenter Jens Pflueger supplied the marketing bollocks:

We wanted to raise awareness about this difficult topic among young people.”

Getting young people in the full flush of life to think about death is healthy. The Kinder Kops are all for it.

The Association of German Undertakers, not being young, slams the contest:

“This activity is not just impious and tasteless, it is also immoral as regards the law against unfair competition.”

Says Pflueger:

“Winston Churchill never lost his sense of humour, even on his deathbed, saying: ‘I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter.’”

Anorak loves deathbed quotes. The last thing most normal people say when dying if “fmpmlsusnp” or something else insightful as they watch the hallucinations triggered by the combination of drugs pumping through their system, and a lack of food and water.

But the famous always manage to produce a lucid quote.

The contest is, of course, in bad taste. But the best funerals often are:
