Larry Kudlow Says Japanese Earthquake Could Be Worse: Could Hurt Your Wallet

by | 14th, March 2011

CNBC anchor Larry Kudlow makes his play for the Most Offensive Remarks about the Japan earthquake and tsunami. Following the Green Shirts assertion that it was a product of global warming, and the champions for dumb animals stating that it was the whales, Kudlow says:

The human toll here looks to be much worse than the economic toll and we can be grateful for that. And the human toll is a tragedy, we know that.”

Cue a huge media shitstorm. And that’s because:

1: Talking about one idiot is easier than talking about thousands of dead.

2: Looking at photos of the Japanese earthquake from afar is to view other people’s horror. It’s just looking. His point that the disaster affects others but not you (his viewers) is – forgivably or unforgivably – correct.

3: Every story in the mainstream news is about us. Israel and the Palestinians are about what we in the West can do. Libya is about what David Cameron can do. The sub-prime mess is about your home. Facebook and Twitter let you see the story though the eyes of people on the scene who have been ruined and hurt. It is the role of the good journalist to edit the story and make it relevant to his readers.

Kudlow  apologized for the statement on Twitter, saying, “talking about markets.I flubbed the line. Sincere apology.”
