French Nuclear Debate Breaks For Row Over MP’s Parked Car

by | 18th, March 2011

THE nuclear crisis in Japan is being debated in France. But there is a more pressing matters: independent member of parliament Maxime Gremetz’s storm into the committee room to moan that his car has been blocked in.

Science committee chairman Claude Birraux thunders:

“That’s enough! This is unworthy!”

Gremetz knows that Japan should wait until his car is freed. He appeals again for emergency aid. It is decided that he should get the car registration number.

Birraux adds:

“With Japanese people risking their lives today, don’t come here and be a pain in the neck with your story about badly parked cars.”

French Energy Minister Eric Besson is more phlegmatic, going on the record to say the car is most likely neither his nor Environment Minister Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet’s:

“If it was either of our cars I am sure the chauffeurs would be sitting in the front.”

The session is adjourned.

Rumours that M. Gremetz is been sent to Fukushima are thought to be wide of the mark…
