Six Reading Child Rapists Put Football In The Dock

by | 18th, March 2011

SIX men have been jailed for raping two 12-year-old girls in Reading.

The guilty, who have admitted rape, are:

Courtney Amos,19, Ashley Charles, 20, Dennis De Sousa, 18, Jahson Downes, 20, Jahvon Edwards, 19, and Luke Farrugia, 21.

The Mail says they are not first and foremost “footballers”. Not paedophiles. Not rapists. First and foremost they are footballers.

Downes has played for Basingstoke Town. Ashley Charles “attended” the Reading FC academy. Luke Farrugia plays for Reading Town.Amos “completed two years of football coaching“.

So. The Mail says they are footballers.

Had the Yorkshire Ripper loved a kick around in the age of the pampered Premiership, would the Mail have thundered “Footballer Jailed For Sex Murders”?

As it says now:

“Six footballers jailed over gang rape of 12-year-old girls in midnight park orgy”

The Mirror agrees:

“Six footballers jailed for the rape of two 12-year-old girls”

Can it be that being a footballer stirs more rage in readers’ hearts than a young man who rapes a child?

The Daily Star says:

A GANG of footballers who had a midnight sex orgy in a park with two 12-year-old girls were jailed yesterday.

It almost sounds like they raped because they were footballers.

The Reading Chronicle prefers the headline:

Six jailed for rape

Get Reading puts it:

Six men were jailed yesterday for a total of 12 years for the rape of two schoolgirls in a park.

Yes. That’s it.
