Sian O’Callaghan: The Hunt For The Missing Swindon Woman

by | 21st, March 2011

SIAN O’Callaghan is missing. Her last reported sighting was at the Suju club in Swindon last Saturday. the media investigates:

The Sun, as ever, focuses on the missing woman’s looks:

POLICE are combing woods for clues after the disappearance of a pretty 22-year-old who vanished after a girls’ night out.

Who’s looking for her?

Celebrities have been tweeting to help raise awareness over Sian’s disappearance, with TV presenter Davina McCall and comedian Eddie Izzard encouraging their followers to spread the message.

The BBC has a fact:

Wiltshire Police confirmed Miss O’Callaghan had been assaulted in the toilets of the Suju club in October 2008, when another woman punched and hit her.

The Mirror sets the scene:

Friend Kate McLeod said: “When we were in the toilets in Suju she was outside speaking to this girl and she said ‘I’ll see in you in 10 or 15 minutes on the dancefloor’. We were in the club until half three looking for her. Now we all just want her to come home. It’s out of character for her not to go home.”

And:

She said Sian had been excited about moving in with boyfriend Kevin Reape and was shifting her belongings from her family home.

The SWNS goes for the gory:

Sex beast targeted women near where Sian O’Callaghan went missing

More facts:

Today a neighbour, who lives near their flat, said there was a ”history” of attacks on young girls in Swindon. The man, in his 40s, said: ”I don’t know her myself but the police were round yesterday asking if we had seen or heard anything. There was a problem in Swindon with someone targeting girls walking out of pubs and clubs in the town late at night. Sian went missing at around 3 in the morning, I think, so it does sound like it could fit. I don’t think they ever found the person who did it. I really hope that hasn’t happened to this girl, and that she turns up safe soon.”

Someone? We hear of two attacks in the past couple of years. And we get a fact:

Wiltshire Police did not link the attacks because the description of the alleged offenders did not match.

No sex beast, then. Maybe sex beasts? Charming stuff from the gentlemen of the press…

Kevin Reape, boyfriend of missing girl Sian O’Callaghan, reads a statement at Gablecross Police Station in Swindon, accompanied by her mother Elaine.
